Air Transportation to/ from Gießen
The Frankfurt International Airport is situated about 70 km south of Gießen. With over 70 million passengers per year the airport is one of the largest in Europe and offers connections with international destinations all around the world.
The quickest way to get from the airport to Gießen is per car, as it’s a 50 minutes drive. The train ride takes around 1.5hrs from the airport own train station to Gießen main station. Most trains leaving the airport head towards Frankfurt main station and from there direct connections to Gießen are possible. Three trains per hour depart for Gießen and the fare is approximately 17 Euro.
Train Travel to/ from Gießen
From wherever you are, Giessen is pretty well connected with the short driving distance to Frankfurt. You can get daily trains from/to Frankfurt and from there connections to most parts of Europe. The travel time is 1.5hrs.
Your destination for the EOU conference will be Gießen main station. From there, the venue is only a 30min walk away, or you can take a cab to the natural science campus of the JLU.

There are many cabs in Gießen, especially at the main train station. Taxies are all equipped with taximeters and have about the same prices.

In Germany banking hours are between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm., Monday to Friday, with extended hours including weekends at some shopping centers. A valid passport is required for all non-EU visitors. Citizens of the European Union countries can enter Germany with a valid passport or with their National Identity Card. Visas are not required for citizens of the European Union. For non-EU citizens more information can be obtained from the German Embassy or Consulate in your country.
